Leaflets Collection
This collection, formed of almost 4,000 items with a chronology that covers in particular the 18th and 19th centuries, constitutes an interesting section within the archive of the Real Sociedad.
It was begun as a reflection of the concern to produce, compile and make public all instructive and heterogeneous material that could be of use for educational purposes in all areas of industry, commerce, agriculture, science and craftwork, as well as a resource for teaching and religion, among other interests.
The catalogue of ecclesiastical brochures of the RSEAPT was part of a research project entitled the “Critical Catalogue of the Ancient Collection of Brochures of the Real Sociedad Economica”, that was carried out by collaboration between scientific, social and educational groups sponsored by the Fundación Canaria Mapfre Guanarteme.
Considered to be one of the most representative collections in the Institution, this type of ecclesiastical leaflet can be seen in multiple forms (pastoral letters, funeral prayer, sermons, panegyric, etc.) that cover a chronology from the 18th to the 19th centuries.
It is a bibliographical section of great interest for the study and interpretation of the history of the Catholic Church during the Enlightenment in the Canary Islands.
